Undersecretary Di Stefano received the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs at the Farnesina today

The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Manlio Di Stefano, today received at the Farnesina the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Gholam Ansari, with whom he made an overview of their bilateral economic partnership perspectives, reaffirming Italy’s interest in fostering their consolidation albeit being aware of the current context of sanctions.

Undersecretary Di Stefano, while respecting the autonomous choices of individual companies, highlighted the opportunity to avoid “overcompliance” by private businesses. He also agreed with Deputy Foreign Minister Ansari on the need to stimulate interaction between Italian and Iranian SMEs and the business segments of their respective civil societies.

To this end, the two Countries’ economic relations will be strengthened by relying on the new intergovernmental instrument INSTEX created by France, Germany and United Kingdom to facilitate commercial transactions with Iran.
