The annual basketball match between the Diplomats National team and the selection from the United States diplomatic missions in Italy will be held in Rome on 11 May. Now at its fourth edition, the match is one of the highlights of “sports diplomacy”. This year the match is part of a broader initiative that includes the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and of the value of mutual understanding and tolerance: in addition to the basketball match between the Diplomats National team and the selection from United States diplomatic missions there will be another match between the American Overseas School of Rome and the Tam Tam Basket team of Castevolturno, exclusively made up of players born in Italy from immigrant parents. The proceeds from the charitable donations of the players and the public at the match will be devolved to the Tam Tam Basket team.
The event will be attended by two former American basketball pros (Cynthia Cooper-Dyke and Casey Shaw), who were testimonials in the schools of Rome, Naples and Castelvolturno to the importance of fighting bullying and cyberbullying as well as to respecting diversity and integration through basketball and sports in general.
The event will be introduced with remarks by the Team Manager of the Diplomats National team, the Director General for Migration Policies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Vignali, and by the Counsellor for Cultural Affairs at the American Embassy, Rodney Ford.
