The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, confirms having received from the Italian Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva a letter signed by six Special Procedures Mandate Holders of the United Nations Human Rights Council. With reference to the news circulated, the Foreign Ministry specifies that the letter contains a request for clarification on two recent directives passed by the Ministry of the Interior on border security and illegal immigration. It also expresses concern over the draft of the so-called “Security Decree-bis” which has not yet been discussed by the Council of Ministers. The letter has also been sent to the Ministry of the Interior and will naturally receive due attention by the Government, consistently with its traditional respect of international commitments and the full protection of human rights.
