The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, today countersigned the inter-ministerial decree establishing the procedures to issue the Electronic Identity Card for Italians abroad, thus completing the process initiated yesterday with the signature of Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.
The new document will be issued by the Italian diplomatic and consular network and will enable Italian citizens residing in European Union Member States and in the Countries in which the ID card assures the freedom of movement (Andorra, Vatican City, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Principality of Monaco, San Marino and Switzerland) to rely on state-of-the-art technologies in document security. The issue of Electronic Identity Cards will begin next 20 September in the ‘pilot’ offices of Vienna, Athens and Nice, to be followed by all the aforesaid Countries involved after a brief experimental period.
