As soon as the news of the seizure in the Gulf of Sidra of the Italian fishing boat “Tramontana” by a Lybian patrol boat was confirmed by the Italian Embassy in Tripoli, Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi sent instructions to the Italian Ambassador, Giuseppe Buccino, to work promptly and effectively to ensure the appropriate treatment and the expeditious release of the crew members and of the boat, which was obliged to deroute towards the port of Misrata. The Foreign Ministry stated that the reasons for seizing the boat are still not clear, but were likely to be related to fishing activities in what is commonly defined as ‘high risk’ waters and consequently discouraged by the Interministerial Committee for Transport and Infrastructures Security.
