Undersecretary Scalfarotto attended the opening ceremony of the TANAP gas pipeline in Ipsala (Turkey) today, for the Turkish section of the Southern Gas Corridor built to transport natural gas from the Azerbaijan gas fields through Georgia, Turkey, Greece and Albania to the final section comprising the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in the Apulia Region.
Scalfarotto said “The TAP is the final section of the Southern Corridor which is a strategic piece of work for Italy and Europe. Natural gas is an essential energy source that assures a manufacturing country like Italy an energy supply that is in line with the requirements of our production sector, in full compliance with commitments for progressive decarbonisation and reduced carbon dioxide emissions. The TAP also aligns perfectly with a diversification strategy in both energy sources and routes, and just like the submarine power cable recently installed between Italy and Montenegro, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline is further proof of how important connectivity is in our cooperation policy with the Partners for Cooperation in the Balkans and the wider Mediterranean region”.
