The Deputy Foreign Minister, Ms. Emanuela Del Re, received at the Foreign Ministry Hilal Elver, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. The meeting was held in connection with Ms. Elver’s mission to Italy, within the framework of the “standing invitation” extended by Italy, under the UN Human Rights mechanism.
The Deputy Minister expressed Italy’s full support to the mandate of the Special Rapporteur, aimed at examining and reporting on the enjoyment of the right to food, and other related human rights, equality and non-discrimination first and foremost. She also provided official assurances of the full collaboration commitment by the Italian Institutions to the mission under way, during which Ms. Elver will visit various areas of the country.
Ms. Del Re also referred to the activities that the Italian Cooperation authorities have undertaken to ensure the right and access to food in developing countries, regarding which Ms. Elver expressed an interest in future programmes for collaboration, in consideration of the key global role played by Italy in the field of food and the agri-industry.
