Vice Minister in charge of Development Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, participated today in a teleconference chaired by UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Aid Coordinator, Mark Lowcock, together with World Health Organization Emergency Director Michael Ryan. The purpose of the teleconference was to explain to crucial donor countries the new United Nations Global Humanitarian Response Plan (GHRP) for COVID-19 emergency.
The Vice Minister praised the initiative of the plan hoping for increasing integration of efforts among UN actors. She assured that Italy will not fail to make its contribution; despite the critical situation it is experiencing. “We share the strategic objectives and aims of GHRP, its focus on vulnerable groups, especially the elderly; we support its emphasis on the involvement of local communities and local and national actors,” said the Vice Minister, who also stressed the difficulties that humanitarian organizations are facing in their activities on the ground in the face of COVID-19 emergency.
