Note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Memorandum of Cooperation in the health field Italy – Japan signed today between the two Ministries of Health

On 7 May, during a videoconference between the two Health Ministers, Italy and Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the health field. The Memorandum strengthens the framework of international medical-scientific collaborations promoted by our country to combat the spread of COVID-19 and identify effective treatments and a vaccine against the virus.

In particular, the Memorandum will strengthen the collaboration with Japan to control and prevent infectious diseases, but also to organise health services and hospital management, monitor the chemical, physical, and biological risk in the workplace, do cancer screening, as well as in many other areas.

The agreement is the result of an intense activity matured thanks to the robust collaboration between Italy and Japan at G7 and G20. These advanced economies record among the highest rates of life expectancy at birth. Therefore, they face common challenges also beyond the current health crisis.

It is further recognition of Italian excellence at an international level in the vital sectors of medical care and health management. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health have fully committed in these fields. They have demonstrated extreme determination putting Italy at the forefront of the promotion of the international alliance for the vaccine against Coronavirus.
