Declaration by the Italian Government over the discovery of mass graves in Tarhouna, Libya

The Italian Government is appalled by the recent discovery of several mass graves in the city of Tarhouna, Libya.

In line with the recent statements by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, EU High Representative Josep Borrell, and the UNSMIL Mission, Italy calls for an independent and transparent inquiry in order to identify perpetrators and hold them accountable.

Italy calls on all parties involved in the Libyan conflict to fully respect human rights and international humanitarian law.
