The Minister also expressed gratitude for Italy’s support for the country’s economic reform path and, in particular, for our contribution at the Sudan Partnership Conference last June.
“In relation to recent political developments in Sudan, Italy welcomed the peace agreement of 3rd October signed in Juba between Khartoum and the Revolutionary Front movements of Sudan, an important step forward for the Sudanese democratic transition” – VM Del Re continued. “We are ready to support Khartoum in ensuring Juba Agreement full implementation, which is now essential, hoping for the accession of the parties who have not yet signed it.
Turning to cultural relations, the Vice Minister indicated interest in introducing new Italian language courses in the Sudanese educational system and in further improving the level of cooperation between the universities of the two countries. Furthermore, Italy is committed to supporting the archaeological missions in Sudan and recognises the importance of promoting the Sudanese cultural sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
On migration issues, VM Del Re expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the Sudanese government to host hundreds of thousands of migrants and to facilitate repatriation operations, in particular of migrants stranded in Libya. “We will continue to provide the support you need, especially through UN organisations working in the field, such as IOM and UNHCR” – the Vice Minister concluded.
