Deputy Minister Di Stefano meets the President of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova

Today, Deputy Minister Manlio Di Stefano met the President of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The topics discussed were bilateral political and economic relations, investments for reconstruction, cultural relations and the regional scenario.

“Azerbaijan and Italy have strong economic and cultural ties,” said Deputy Minister. “We consider Baku an important interlocutor, and we believe that opportunities and well-being can come from stabilisation for all the region’s inhabitants.”

Concerning the reconstruction of the territories that have returned under Azerbaijani control, Deputy Minister Di Stefano and President Gafarova called for the consolidation of sectoral cooperation in urban planning, infrastructure, restoration, and heritage protection.

Di Stefano, who carried out a mission to Armenia and Azerbaijan in December 2020 immediately after the ceasefire envisaged by the Tripartite Declaration, expressed his hope to see a genuine reconciliation between the two countries. “The resolution of the conflict requires not only a political agreement but also social harmonisation. Italy intends to be close to both countries in a path of economic development and reconstruction.”
