Notice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – NATO

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, spoke today by videoconference at the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of NATO countries organised given the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Atlantic Alliance, scheduled to take place in Brussels on 14 June.

In his address, Minister Di Maio emphasised the importance of consolidating a further phase of adaptation of the Alliance’s ability to cope with the security needs of an increasingly complex international scenario, favouring a comprehensive approach and maintaining a high focus on new challenges, such as the link between climate change and security.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs then renewed Italy’s full support for maintaining a high level of ambition for NATO partnerships, particularly with the Partners of the South.

Finally, Minister Di Maio confirmed Italy’s contribution to an orderly conclusion of NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan. He reiterated the need to continue supporting the intra-Afghan peace process and safeguard the critical progress made in recent years regarding civil and democratic rights and the role of women in Afghan society.
