Undersecretary Benedetto Della Vedova participated today in the first edition of the Prespa Dialogue Forum, organised by the Government of North Macedonia with the aim of promoting constructive dialogue and regional reconciliation between the countries of the Western Balkans, incluing via the active involvement of civil society and young people.
“The future of the Western Balkans lies in the European Union and we must work to ensure that the enlargement process remains credible,” Della Vedova said at the opening. “The active involvement of civil society, but above all of the younger generations, in the process of European integration is fundamental, as they become the bearers and defenders of the Union’s founding values and promoters of those reforms that are necessary for entry into the Union”. As for the bilateral issues that still characterise relations between the countries of the Western Balkans, Undersecretary Della Vedova recalled how North Macedonia itself, first with the good neighbourly treaty with Bulgaria in 2017, then with the Prespa Agreement with Greece, has shown the way forward for imprving bilateral relations, with a view to progressive integration both at an intra-regional and Euro-Atlantic level.
