Two new initiatives financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Migration Fund will strengthen migration cooperation with countries in the Sahelian region, which are at the crossroads of flows towards Europe.
In Mali, following the signing on 6 May of the Joint Declaration on Migration Cooperation between Minister Di Maio and Minister of Malians Abroad and African Integration Al Hamdou Ag Ilyene, a project has been developed in collaboration with IOM. The purpose is to strengthen the capacity of local authorities in receiving and assisting fragile and vulnerable migrants.
A broader regional project covering Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, also developed with IOM, aims to improve the capacity to control the border area between the three countries, to prevent human trafficking and assist migrants in particularly challenging situation.
