Della Vedova: good Polish proposal for a new dialogue on European security in the OSCE

“The proposal for a renewed dialogue on European security in the OSCE offers a valuable opportunity that must not be missed, to once again re-engage in the vision of a free, democratic, common and indivisible Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian security community.” These are the words spoken by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Benedetto Della Vedova, during his speech to the OSCE ministerial conference organized by the acting Polish Presidency.

The Undersecretary also said: “We commend the efforts undertaken by the Polish Presidency. Our commitment to the renewed dialogue must aim to revive the ‘spirit of Helsinki’ which, almost 47 years ago, laid the foundations for the start of the detente between the two blocks.”

“When confronting new ideas to strengthen mutual trust and common security, especially within the political-military area and in arms control in Europe, our discussions must not be guided by emotions nor ideas that could take us back to the past.” Della Vedova concluded: “Reviving the ‘spirit of Helsinki’ means, first of all, that we must never abandon dialogue and discussions to solve conflict situations.”
