Minister Di Maio attends the Foreign Affairs Council

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, is due to attend the European Union Foreign Affairs Council that will be held in Luxembourg tomorrow 20 June.
On the sidelines of the Foreign Affairs Council, Minister Di Maio, together with the Finnish Foreign Minister, Pekka Haavisto, will co-host a first informal working lunch with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer, to discuss the key role played by the Committee – one of the principal partners of the Italian Cooperation service – in responding to humanitarian emergencies, starting with the crisis in Ukraine.

The Council sessions envisage an exchange of opinions on the principal themes of the international agenda, starting with an in-depth debate on the recent developments in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, with a special focus on the EU’s Action Plan on the consequences of the conflict and on food security. The 27 EU Members will then exchange opinions on EU-Egypt bilateral relations and on the Horn of Africa and will attend an informal lunch with Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry.

On the sidelines of these meetings, Minister Di Maio has also scheduled several bilateral meetings.
