Freelance journalist Mattia Sorbi flown back to Italy

Mattia Sorbi, the Italian freelance journalist wounded near Cherson last 31 August, is being flown back to Milan on an aircraft with in-flight medical assistance in an operation organised by the Farnesina’s Crisis Unit in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross and the Russian Red Cross. The latter more specifically made it possible for the journalist to be transferred from Cherson to Mineralnye Vody Airport, in the Russian Federation, to be then flown to Italy via Istanbul on an air ambulance provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The Farnesina sincerely thanks the Italian Red Cross and the Russian Red Cross for their collaboration in the humanitarian evacuation, ensuring medical care and observation throughout the process and handling the contacts with all the Authorities involved.

The Crisis Unit remained in constant contact with the fellow countryman and with the doctors assisting him.

Mattia Sorbi will now continue to receive medical care in specialized Italian facilities in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross until his complete rehabilitation.
