Today, the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, attended the Third Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Support Platform. The Conference opened with remarks by the Foreign Ministers of France, Colonna, Germany, Baerbock, and Romania, Aurescu, while President Macron and President Sandu closed the working session before 57 delegations.
In her contribution, Undersecretary Tripodi reaffirmed Italy’s firm support to Moldova, as already shown at the conferences of Berlin and Bucharest, in the sector of humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees. She said: “Our support to Moldova cannot be limited to the humanitarian crisis and the protection of refugees. Today Moldova is going through a very serious energy crisis.” She continued: “It is in this spirit and within the scope of our co-chairmanship of the working group on energy, that today I am pleased to announce a contribution of approximately 10 million euros to support Moldova’s priority energy needs and mitigate the negative effects on the most exposed population segments.”
“In the face of an unjustified and unfair crisis, no Country in difficulty that is a member of our large European family must be left alone. Solidarity is our strength, and this Platform is an essential tool to prove it,” said Tripodi. “We are deeply committed to assist and support Moldova’s European integration process, supporting its reform efforts through training programmes and initiatives that involve the Corps of the Carabinieri and our Ministries of the Interior, of Defence, and of Justice.”
“The future of Moldova is within the European Union, as already experienced by hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens who live and work in EU Countries, 150,000 of whom in Italy. We want to stand by Moldova in its path towards the future,” Undersecretary Tripodi concluded.
