Today, Italian Deputy Minister Edmondo Cirielli received the Romanian Ambassador to Italy, Gabriela Dancau, to exchange views on the state of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to intensify the bilateral political dialogue and the already excellent bilateral economic relations between Rome and Bucharest, also in light of the opportunities offered by the respective NRRPs. The commitment to strengthen the strategic partnership between Italy and Romania, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, was confirmed. Deputy Minister Cirielli and Ambassador Dancau also highlighted the contribution made by the large and hard-working Romanian community in Italy, and by the dynamic Italian business community in Romania. The Romanian Ambassador also expressed particular appreciation for the Italian military presence in the NATO mission for the surveillance of Romanian airspace (air policing) hosted at the Constanta base, which is part of the defence and deterrence force on the Atlantic Alliance’s eastern flank. Finally, the Deputy Minister took the opportunity provided by the meeting to confirm Italy’s continued support in favour of Romania’s entry into the Schengen Area.
