Meeting of Italian Deputy Prime Minister Tajani with the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Pizzaballa, and the Custos of the Holy Land, Father Patton

Today, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani met in Jerusalem with the Latin Patriarch, Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa and the Custos of the Holy Land, Father Francesco Patton.

During their friendly and fruitful conversation, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the Italian government’s commitment to the preservation of Christian holy places and the support for traditional Christian communities in Israel and Palestine.

“The promotion of freedom of religion and support for Christian communities are a priority of the Italian government’s foreign policy,” said Tajani, assuring the utmost support for the Latin Patriarch’s action in favour of interreligious dialogue and peace.

The Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out to Mgr. Pizzaballa that he had discussed the issue of the protection of Christians in Israel and Palestine with both President Herzog and the Palestinian Authorities
