Rome, 19 April 2023 – The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, has addressed a letter to his counterpart of Papua New Guinea, Justin Tkatchenko, to request the urgent repatriation for medical reasons of compatriot Carlo D’Attanasio, arrested in the Pacific country in August 2020 on charges of drug trafficking and still awaiting trial. The compatriot, who, in liaison with Farnesina, has been constantly assisted since his detention by the Italian Embassy in Canberra and the Honorary Consulate in Port Moresby, is currently at Paradise Private Hospital in Port Moresby.
