The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, is on a mission to New York today and tomorrow to take part in several working sessions at the United Nations, delegated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Antonio Tajani.
On Monday, Undersecretary Tripodi will speak at the opening of the Ministerial segment of the UN High-Level Political Forum, the main global platform dedicated to sustainable development and the advancement of the UN 2030 Agenda and the review of its 17 Goals. The Undersecretary will later address the opening session of the event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute that established the International Criminal Court, in the presence of the Court’s leadership, Ministers and delegates from State Parties, as well as observers, and affiliated NGOs.
On the following day, Undersecretary Tripodi will deliver the national address in the General Assembly at the session devoted to the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, introduced by Minister Kuleba to illustrate the Ukrainian peace plan, and will later speak at a Security Council meeting devoted to the discussion on relations between the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court organised by Switzerland and Japan. Later, at the General Assembly, Undersecretary Tripodi will take the floor in the general debate of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. On the sidelines of the event, the Undersecretary will meet with the staff of the Italian Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute, and hold several bilateral meetings with counterparts from other countries, also focusing on promoting Rome’s candidacy to host EXPO 2030.
Undersecretary Tripodi will finally go to the Memorial of the September 11 terrorist attack to lay a wreath and pay tribute to the victims.
