Italy’s Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, spoke at the “Kore” University of Enna during the scientific conference “Servizio Sanitario Nazionale e la formazione in Sanità” (National Health Service and training in the health sector), opening the “Medicina nel contesto internazionale e mediterraneo” (Medicine in the international and Mediterranean context) session.
Undersecretary Tripodi stressed that globalisation has led to enormous social and health challenges. “The Covid pandemic put a huge strain on mankind. Yet we have managed to stop it and recover. The contribution of science, innovation and international cooperation has been extraordinary”, she remarked. The Undersecretary added that Italy aims to achieve open, inclusive and far-sighted international scientific and technological cooperation, and that science diplomacy has become one of the pillars of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ action.
“New international partnerships must be promoted, clinical data and knowledge must be shared. The Italian Government firmly believes in the value of scientific research as an indispensable tool for the country’s development”, the Undersecretary pointed out.
“Investing in research – in this increasingly complex world – is the only real guarantee for the future. To this end, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) will invest its resources and commit itself to the development of increasingly solid bilateral and multilateral relations”, concluded Tripodi.
