Following yesterday’s mission in Egypt, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, had a new telephone conversation – following the first exchange on 8 October – with the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eli Cohen. During the call, the Italian Minister restated Italy’s closeness and solidarity with the Israeli people.
“I have confirmed to Minister Cohen our Country’s full commitment to ensure Israel’s defence and security against the brutal attack from Hamas terrorists, which we strongly condemn”, commented the Deputy Prime Minister, who also informed his peer about the outcomes of the discussions held with the leading regional and international partners.
Tajani added, “In the name of the historical and deep-rooted friendship that ties our two Countries, the Government will keep supporting Israel in this difficult historical moment”.
As for the concerns related to an upsurge of Hezbollah’s attacks directed from Lebanon to Northern Israel, the Deputy Prime Minister reassured Minister Cohen that the Government would make any efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading further into the region and “to set up the conditions to restore a political path towards the two Peoples and two States solution”.
Tajani also informed Cohen that the Government will monitor the allocation of the Italian Cooperation funds for the Palestinian people to avoid possible abuses, and added, “Not a single euro shall end in Hamas’ hands or in the hands of those who stand on its side by making anti-Jewish and racist propaganda to tackle an entire people, an entire civilization.”
