During her mission to Japan to attend the G7 Trade Ministers’ Meeting, the Italian Undersecretary Maria Tripodi met with the Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Taku Ishii, in Tokyo.
Their discussions revolved around the state of the art in preparation for the Universal 2025 EXPO that will be held in Osaka and Italy’s participation. The Undersecretary expressed her gratitude to the Japanese counterpart for the support received in setting up the Italian pavilion and announced the advancement of the procedure launched with local authorities, reflecting the concrete chance to start construction works in December.
Moreover, she mentioned Rome’s candidacy to host the Universal EXPO in 2030 and asked Japan for support in the voting procedures next month in Paris.
Italy and Japan’s relationship lies in a strategic partnership and joint participation in the G7. The 2024 handover of the former Japan’s G7 Presidency to Italy was also part of the discussions.
Finally, Undersecretary Tripodi mentioned several ways to increase collaboration between the two countries from a political, trade, cultural and industrial point of view. In the industrial framework, Japan is a privileged partner that wishes – as announced by the Undersecretary and confirmed by Minister Ishii – to strengthen bilateral relations in light of the next Italy-Japan Business Group of 6 and 7 November.
