Italy was re-elected yesterday to its seventh consecutive four-year mandate as a member of UNESCO’s Executive Board. The election took place during the 42nd meeting of UNESCO’s General Conference in Paris.
The election, which saw Italy receive the highest number of votes in the Western Group, reaffirms the leading role played by the country in the promotion and protection of UNESCO’s core values.
Education, information, science and culture will continue to be the focus of Italy’s multilateral action, along with its commitment to raising worldwide awareness of the importance of preserving and promoting cultural and natural heritage. These themes will be the focus of the Italy – UNESCO Conference “Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century”, which will bring together all of UNESCO’s Member States in Naples from 27 to 29 November.
