A coordination meeting between the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Ministry of Defence was held this afternoon at Palazzo Chigi to examine the main elements of the crisis in the enlarged Mediterranean area, and in particular the security situation for shipping in the Red Sea.
The Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, and Italian Undersecretary to the Presidency Alfredo Mantovano compared the analyses of their respective administrations and agreed on the guidelines to be proposed at the forthcoming international meetings, in particular at the Foreign Affairs Council on 22 January, when the formation of a European naval force dedicated to protecting merchant ships in the Red Sea area will be discussed.
