Celebrations for the Italian Republic Day

Prompted by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, representatives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation participated for the first time in the parade at the Imperial Fora in Rome for the celebration of the Italian Republic Day.

Among the 5,300 men and women from the Italian Armed Forces and military and non-military bodies of the Italian State who took part in the 2024 Parade – this year bearing the slogan “A difesa della Repubblica, al servizio del Paese” (“Defending the Republic, serving the Country”) – there was also a group of officials from the Crisis Unit, including Financial Police officers and Carabinieri, as well as Italian Consuls.

“I am proud that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is participating in the 2 June Parade for the first time,” Tajani pointed out, adding that “the involvement of Consuls and officials of the Crisis Unit is a testimony and a tribute to the efforts for the protection and assistance of Italian citizens abroad undertaken, through the network of 309 Italian embassies and consulates, by men and women who have chosen to serve their Country and represent it in every corner of the world.”

In particular, the Crisis Unit protects Italian citizens abroad in emergency situations, such as terrorism, socio-political tensions, natural disasters and pandemics. The Consuls provide consular services to over 7 million Italians living abroad, and also assist compatriots who are temporarily abroad for tourism or work.

The Italian Republic Day was also celebrated around the world by all Italian embassies and consulates, which, for the occasion, broadcast a video message from Minister Antonio Tajani sending his best wishes to all Italian nationals residing outside Italy.
