Sixteen more Palestinian children, evacuated from Gaza and in urgent need of medical care due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis, have departed from Egypt to Italy.
“I want to once again thank the Egyptian Government for their cooperation, particularly the new Foreign Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdelatty, with whom I had a conversation three days ago. This is a humanitarian operation that Italy considers one of its priorities,” stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.
“We reaffirm the Italian Government’s concrete commitment to alleviating the suffering of the civilian population in Gaza,” added the Minister. Today’s operation is part of a series of actions already undertaken by Italy, which has evacuated over 300 Palestinian citizens since last autumn, including relatives of Italian citizens and minors in need of medical assistance.
The mission was carried out under the “European Civil Protection Mechanism” with crucial coordination and organisation by the Civil Protection Department. It was organised in synergy with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Health, the Joint Operations Command (Covi), the Italian Air Force, the Guardia di Finanza, and the Prefectures involved in welcoming the patients and their companions, in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the Italian Hospital “Umberto I” in Cairo. In Italy, the 16 patients will be transferred to national hospital facilities.
