Undersecretary Silli attends the Italy-Canada Conference 2024

This afternoon, Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli took part in the Italy-Canada Conference 2024, an annual event organised by the Canadian Chamber in Italy and the Canada-Europe Economic Chamber in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada in Italy.

“At a time of geopolitical turmoil, Canada remains a strategic economic partner for Italy,” the Undersecretary pointed out in his opening speech. “There are strong business ties between our countries, and data shows that bilateral trade was on the rise in early 2024,” Silli added.

The event was attended by business and political representatives from Italy and Canada, as animated by a mutual desire to strengthen the already excellent economic and trade relations between the two countries. The proceedings saw an intense debate around the theme “Strong trade relations lead to great opportunities in strategic sectors”, with a focus on technology, sustainable energy, infrastructure and international trade.

Other speakers included the Ambassador of Canada to Italy, Elissa Golberg, the President of the Canada-Europe Economic Chamber, Sam Ayoub, and the Vice President of the Canadian Chamber in Italy, Stefano Colombetti.

Italy and Canada celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2022 and continue to work on strengthening relations. On 15 June, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Italian Prime Minister Meloni and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau adopted the Action Plan for Enhanced Cooperation between Italy and Canada, pledging to work together to address global challenges by promoting sustainable development, international stability, and a rules-based international order.
