Italy’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, conducted a working visit to Turkmenistan, during which he held bilateral political consultations with Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as with Ahmet Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for political affairs. He also met with Tangryguly Atahalliyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers in charge of agriculture, environment, and water resources.
During the meetings, the excellent state of bilateral relations between Italy and Turkmenistan was reaffirmed, along with the strategic importance for Italy of its relations with the Central Asian states. Discussions covered the enhancement of economic and trade relations, energy cooperation, defence, environmental issues, connectivity, and cultural exchanges, as well as key geopolitical and international matters, including relations with neighbouring Iran and Afghanistan.
As part of the visit, Deputy Minister Cirielli also had the opportunity to meet the Italian business community in Ashgabat, visit the Italian archaeological mission “Nisa Parthica”, and address Italian language students from the three main Turkmen universities, as well as at the “Ish Nokady” Training Centre.
