Coinciding with the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, the mission of Foreign Minister Tajani’s Special Envoy for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Davide La Cecilia, took place in Kyiv. He met with representatives of the government and local authorities in view of the organisation of the “Ukraine Recovery Conference” scheduled in Rome on 10-11 July.
Important meetings were held with Finance Minister Marchenko on the continuation of economic assistance and the relaunch of the Donor Platform; with Energy Minister Halushenko on the strengthening of energy infrastructure after the repeated Russian bombings in recent weeks that have affected gas production; and with Minister of National Unity Chernyshov, together with the Ministries of Social Policy, Health, Veterans, Economy, Youth and Sports, and Culture to discuss how to strengthen civil, health, and educational infrastructure and promote social conditions for economic recovery.
During the mission, the Special Envoy also met with Minister of Culture Tochytskyi with whom significant progress was made on the establishment of an international fund for the protection of Ukraine’s cultural heritage and a specific instrument to combat illegal trafficking in works of art. La Cecilia also held meetings with the National Agency for Reconstruction, representatives of the UN system, civil society and the international business community. The meetings were attended by the Ambassador in Kyiv, Carlo Formosa.
La Cecilia was keen to emphasise Italy’s commitment to reconstruction, in line with our country’s all-round support for Ukraine, pointing out that, on 5 March in Milan, Minister Tajani will open the preparatory event dedicated to the private sector, with Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko and Lombardy President Fontana, with the participation of entrepreneurs and managers representing Italian, Ukrainian and international companies.
