Italy-Pakistan bilateral consultations

On 28 February, the Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia, chaired the sixth session of the Italy-Pakistan Political Consultations at the Farnesina, alongside his Pakistani counterpart, Ambassador Amna Baloch. These consultations are part of the 2013 Strategic Engagement Plan between the two countries.

The meeting marked the beginning of a new chapter in the already excellent bilateral relations between Italy and Pakistan, which celebrated their 75th anniversary in 2023. This partnership is set to reach a new level in the coming months with the opening of a new Diplomatic Chancellery in Islamabad.

During the consultations, the two sides reviewed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including economic, trade, and investment relations; development cooperation; culture and higher education; agreements and nominations. Discussions also covered regional dynamics, with a particular focus on the Indo-Pacific region, as well as Pakistan’s relations with the European Union and cooperation within the United Nations framework.
