Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi today chaired the interministerial coordination meeting on Foreign Affairs and Interior at the Farnesina, aimed at defining common positions and facilitating information sharing between the two ministries.
The meeting sought to identify new forms of collaboration, including the possible planning of joint missions by both ministries to countries of origin and transit of migration flows; strengthen coordination on migration management; define the main strategic lines of government action; and align on objectives and priorities to be pursued in 2025.
During the coordination meeting, key migration-related issues were discussed, including cooperation with migrants’ countries of origin and transit, the role of migration and mobility agreements, and the enhancement of assisted voluntary return programmes.
Interministerial cooperation is also essential to ensure the coherence of Italy’s political and strategic priorities in discussions taking place in Brussels within the framework of the new European legislative term.
