On the eve of the fourth anniversary of the tragic death of Ambassador Luca Attanasio, victim of an attack in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2021, together with Carabiniere scelto Vittorio Iacovacci and WFP driver Mustapha Milambo, Minister Antonio Tajani commemorated their sacrifice at a ceremony also attended by the Carabinieri Commander General, Salvatore Luongo.
Minister Tajani laid a laurel wreath at the Scalea Attanasio, next to the Farnesina Palace, accompanied by a delegation of Foreign Ministry’s diplomats, including some young Legation Secretaries who entered the diplomatic career the same year as Attanasio. The ceremony ended in the “Iacovacci Room” of the Crisis Unit, which is used for emergency planning, where diplomats and Carabinieri work side by side. On the occasion, the Minister emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Foreign Ministry and the Carabinieri for the protection of compatriots abroad.
Upon the Minister’s instructions, the entire Italian diplomatic-consular network in the world joined in the memory of Ambassador Attanasio and Carabiniere scelto Iacovacci, commemorating them with a minute’s silence.
