Undersecretary Silli received today at the Farnesina the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Safeen Dizayee. During the long and cordial meeting, discussions focused on prospects for further strengthening cooperation in the economic, energy, security, and cultural sectors. Both parties reaffirmed their strong commitment to increasing trade exchanges and promoting bilateral investment opportunities, building on the promising outcomes of the Italy-KRG Economic Forum, which concluded today in Rome. From a cultural perspective, particular emphasis was placed on the numerous Italian archaeological missions in the Iraqi Kurdistan region and the fruitful collaboration in combating the illicit trafficking of archaeological artefacts.
Dizayee expressed gratitude and strong appreciation towards Italy for its support and training activities for Iraqi security forces and Kurdish Peshmerga within the framework of the Anti-Daesh coalition. Silli agreed on the need to continue this cooperation, particularly in light of the current regional security context.
The meeting also focused on key Middle Eastern issues, including Syria.
