“Italy House” inaugurated in Edinburgh: new premises for the Consulate and Italian Cultural Institute

A ceremony was held today in Edinburgh to mark the inauguration of the new premises of the Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute, attended by Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli.

The opening of the new headquarters—designed to meet the needs of Italy’s growing community and the increasing demand for consular services—is part of a broader strategy to enhance Italy’s presence in the United Kingdom. This initiative began with the establishment of the Manchester Consulate in 2021 and continued in 2023 with the digitisation of consular archives in London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.

The Italian community in the region is expanding, with over 27,000 AIRE-registered citizens in Scotland and Northern Ireland, who have successfully integrated into the local social and economic fabric. “Italy House” will serve as the heart of Italy’s presence in Edinburgh, a city that is home to over 30% of Italian nationals residing in Scotland.

“The inauguration of a new consular office is further proof of the Government’s commitment to Italians living abroad. This first visit to Scotland during my mandate is an important opportunity to strengthen ties with Italian associations, the Comites, the CGIE, and the local community,” commented Undersecretary Silli.
