Undersecretary Tripodi in India met Business Community and Political Authorities

The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, is continuing her mission to India focused on growth diplomacy. This morning she met with representatives of the Country System: addressing the Council of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in India, she discussed future investment and business cooperation opportunities together with companies.

With the Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, she deepened the bilateral partnership and political dialogue. The Undersecretary said: ‘India is a country of absolute importance for Italy, with which we intend to further strengthen our Strategic Partnership, by implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, the priority sectors of which are energy transition, connectivity, advanced manufacturing, defence, mobility and migration. These are all areas where we have recognised expertise to share with our Indian partners.’

In the conversation with the Minister of Trade and Industry, Piyush Goyal, special attention was paid to the areas of strategic complementarity between the two countries. “The numbers certify the solidity of our relations”, Tripodi commented, recalling how, despite the strong uncertainties in global markets, bilateral trade exceeded EUR 14 billion. “This is a considerable figure, which is destined to grow when the last knots in the negotiation of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement are untangled”, she added, assuring full support from the Italian government. During the talks. Undersecretary  Tripodi also highlighted Italy’s focus on the Indo-Pacific and its main regional platforms, such as the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI) and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
