Today, Foreign Minister Tajani will open, together with the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, the event “Nurturing International Talents: the Scholarships of the Italian System”, aimed at presenting the action of the Italian Government for the promotion of scholarship programs to the benefit of international citizens and Italians living abroad. The initiative, carried out in close collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza (Inland Revenue Police), is designed to take action to combat the unlawful obtaining of scholarships and ensure the fair treatment of university students.
Minister Tajani said: “Scholarships for international students are one of the main tools at our disposal to promote the internationalization of the Italian university system. This is an essential lever for attracting young foreign talents to our universities, also for the purpose of training and bringing the future ruling classes of friendly countries closer to Italy. For these reasons, the promotion and strengthening of the Foreign Ministry’s scholarships are a priority for our Ministry, within the broader framework of the growth diplomacy strategy.” The Foreign Ministry’s offer of scholarships for international students has increased by 60% compared to the previous academic year, doubling for young people from Africa.
The event will also be attended by the Commander General of the Guardia di Finanza, Andrea De Gennaro, and the President of the National Association of Organizations for the Right to University Education, Emilio Di Marzio. The initiative will end with the testimonies of some former Foreign Ministry’s and University Ministry’s scholarship holders.
