The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, took part today in the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council in Development format, held in Brussels and chaired by the High Representative, Kaja Kallas.
On the agenda: urgent aid to Ukraine; preparations for the upcoming United Nations Summit on Financing for Development, which will take place in Seville from 30 June to 3 July; follow-ups to the recent EU–African Union Ministerial Meeting; and the EU’s External Action Strategy post-2027.
“We want to show that Europe is not merely a provider of funds, but a builder of partnerships based on mutual respect for sovereignty, institutional capacity, and tangible results. This vision is fully aligned with the Global Gateway approach and with our commitment through the Mattei Plan for Africa,” stated Deputy Minister Cirielli, underlining the importance of an inclusive approach to development cooperation—one that involves not only governments and civil society but also the private sector, in order to foster genuine growth diplomacy.
