Deputy Minister Cirielli opens the “Italy and Central Asia” seminar

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, today opened the seminar “Italy and Central Asia” at the Farnesina. The event was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the geopolitical think tank “Vision and Global Trends”.

In his address, the Deputy Minister highlighted the growing strategic importance of Central Asia in global geopolitical balances, as well as the deep ties that connect the region with Italy. These are strong relations that should be framed within a broader regional context — one which the Italian government is increasingly committed to strengthening. At the regional level, Italy was also the first European country to establish a mechanism of regular consultations with the five Central Asian countries — the “1+5” Format — aimed at exploring enhanced cooperation in political, economic and cultural spheres.

The seminar, which was attended by the Ambassadors of all five countries involved (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan), offered a valuable platform for in-depth dialogue among diplomats, scholars, students, and experts. The goal was to explore the many areas of Italy–Central Asia cooperation and to identify pathways for shared and sustainable growth.
