The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, participated – on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani – in the extraordinary Foreign Affairs Council convened by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, in Lviv, Ukraine. The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrij Sybiha.
The dialogue in Lviv focused on the need to achieve a just and lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia and, in that context, to ensure military support for Ukraine to strengthen its negotiating position and ensure its security and recovery in the perspective of the end of the conflict.
Later, together with Denmark, France, the Netherlands and High Representative Kallas, Deputy Minister Cirielli participated – on behalf of Italy – in the launch of a 1 billion euro military assistance measure for the Ukrainian defence industry under the European Peace Facility, financed by the extraordinary profits of Russian funds frozen under European sanctions. Finally, the Deputy Minister took part in the Ministerial Meeting of the Core Group of Countries of the Council of Europe on the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.
