Release of Italian national Alfredo Schiavo

In relation to the release of Italian-Venezuelan citizen Alfredo Schiavo, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, stated: “On behalf of the Italian Government, I express satisfaction at the release of Alfredo Schiavo, who had been imprisoned for five years in Venezuelan jails, and I commend the excellent teamwork that led to his release. I thank Nicolás Maduro for his personal involvement in a case that also saw the valuable mediation efforts of the Sant’Egidio Community. I hope that a similar outcome will soon be achieved in the case of Italian national Alberto Trentini and the other Italians currently in comparable situations”.
