The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, will be in London this morning, where he will participate in a “Weimar+” format Ministerial meeting (France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom and the EU) and in Verona in the afternoon, to chair the fourth preparatory event dedicated to the “territorial dimension” in view of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, scheduled in Rome on 10-11 July.

In London, the Foreign Ministers of the Big5 group (France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain) and of the United Kingdom, with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, will discuss the main international crisis scenarios.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, will also participate in the works of the first session, dedicated to Ukraine.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to take stock of the ongoing diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire and an agreement for a just peace between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the recovery priorities and prospects for Ukraine’s future, including its path to accession to the European Union.

The second session of the meeting, dedicated to Euro-Atlantic security, will be an opportunity to address the issues of strengthening the transatlantic bond and strengthening the European pillar of NATO, also in view of the Alliance Summit to be held in The Hague in June.

Assistance to Ukraine will also be at the heart of the mission to Verona, where Minister Tajani will chair a preparatory event for the Ukraine Recovery Conference, dedicated to the local and regional dimension. The meeting, organized by the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry for the Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, in collaboration with ITA, will hinge around a series of working sessions on the role of local authorities and regional administrations in Ukraine’s recovery.

The meeting will see the participation of over 450 local administrators, government representatives, as well as Italian, Ukrainian and international companies. The role of local and regional actors in the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine will also be central to the July conference.

Italian support to Ukraine – net of military support and contributions paid through the EU – amounts to approximately EUR 2.5 billion, of which approximately 1 billion for refugees, 310 million in support of the State budget and 93 million in humanitarian activities.
