Following today’s telephone conversations with the Foreign Ministers of Qatar and Iraq, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, also had a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal Bin Farhan al Saud.
While taking stock of the crisis between Iran and Israel, the two Ministers touched on the issue of the possible economic effects of military operations, starting with the risks of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Minister Tajani drew particular attention to the issue of international and Italian technicians operating in the region, particularly in oil infrastructure. He then shared the position of the Italian government which, in coordination with its European partners, supports de-escalation and a resumption of negotiations on the nuclear issue.
The two Ministers also addressed the issue of the crisis in Gaza, hoping for a prompt ceasefire and the resumption of humanitarian aid. They also underlined the need to protect the Palestinian civilian population.
