There is also an 18-month-old baby among the compatriots assisted by the embassy in Tehran.
The activities coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist Italians who intend to leave Iran or Israel are continuing in these hours.
At the request of Minister Antonio Tajani, a new convoy was assisted that left Tehran and arrived in Azerbaijan. After the first 34 people who arrived in Italy via Baku in recent days, the second group includes 24 people including compatriots and family members, who left in the early hours of this morning from the Iranian capital for the city of Astara, with the assistance of the Italian Embassy in Tehran. Among them there is also an Iranian woman with her 18-month-old son. The woman is the partner of a doctor from Parma who had asked for assistance to get his family out of Iran. After about 9 hours of travel and a very long wait at the border, the group was welcomed by representatives of the Italian Embassy in Baku, and then moved to the airport of the Azeri capital waiting to return to Italy on the first available flights.
Another convoy from Iran could leave Tehran as early as next Monday. The departure of our fellow citizens from Iran is also involving other neighbouring countries, such as Armenia, Turkey and Turkmenistan. Assisted by the Italian Embassy in Ashgabat, a fellow citizen crossed the Turkmen border today and will be able to return to Italy tomorrow morning.
The Foreign Ministry’s assistance activities also involve our fellow citizens present in Israel. To facilitate their return to Italy, a charter flight will leave from Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt) on 22 June for Verona. The procedures for confirming the passengers who have requested to board next Sunday’s flight are currently being finalized.
Based on the requests received and the possibilities that will emerge depending on the developments of the situation in the region, the possibility of organizing new convoys or facilitating the organization of additional charter flights will be explored.
