Undersecretary Tripodi in Paris: participation in the OECD Ministerial and G7 Trade meetings

Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, on behalf of Minister Antonio Tajani, took part in the OECD Ministerial meeting in Paris.

Speaking yesterday during the second working session, “Actively reinforcing open markets and the rules-based international trading system,” Tripodi reiterated Italy’s strong commitment to strengthening the multilateral trading system, grounded in fair, transparent and enforceable rules, which foster the predictability of investments essential for the work of our businesses. The Undersecretary also highlighted the importance of timely and appropriate regulation of artificial intelligence. Tripodi further emphasised Italy’s great support for the OECD’s outreach to new partners in the Indo-Pacific and Latin America.

On the margins of the meeting, the Undersecretary had a fruitful conversation with Paola Bucante Zamora, Costa Rica’s Minister of Science, focusing on strengthening scientific cooperation.

This morning, Tripodi attended the G7 Trade meeting, held under the Canadian Presidency. “We must promote a comprehensive reform of the World Trade Organization. Otherwise, the risk is that unilateral responses to today’s issues will end up compromising value chains and our own economic security,” concluded the Undersecretary.
