The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, co-chaired the Bilateral Political Consultation Mechanism with the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile, Gloria de la Fuente, aimed at revitalising Italy–Chile relations and exploring new areas of cooperation.
Discussions focused on economic and trade relations, with a detailed review of opportunities for Italian businesses, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure, energy, agritech, innovation, and education and training. The meeting also covered cooperation in the fields of culture, science, and higher education, as well as legal diplomacy and the fight against organised crime, including through the Falcone and Borsellino Programme.
The consultations provided an opportunity to exchange views on major global crises, including Venezuela, the Middle East, Ukraine, and EU-related dossiers, particularly regarding the ratification process of the Advanced Framework Agreement.
Undersecretary Tripodi expressed her satisfaction with the positive outcome of the consultation mechanism and renewed her call for joint efforts in view of the upcoming Italy–Latin America and Caribbean Conference.
