The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, will be in The Hague today and tomorrow to participate in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Atlantic Alliance, together with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto.
A fundamental objective of this year’s NATO Summit will be the agreement between the Allies on a new defence spending target of 5% of GDP, on which the Government has obtained both an extension of terms and the flexibility required to achieve the 5% target.
The agenda will also focus on the expansion of production by the transatlantic defence industry, the maintenance of military support for Ukraine in the long term, as well as the necessary coordination between the Alliance and the European Union.
A meeting of Foreign Ministers in the “NATO-Ukraine Council” format will be dedicated to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which will enable the Allies to receive updated assessments on the progress of the conflict and the negotiation process from Ukraine’ s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
As was the case with the Ministers’ Meeting in the “Weimar Plus” format in Rome, Minister Tajani will express the strongest condemnation of Russia’s continued indiscriminate attacks and will reaffirm the need to ensure the most effective aid to Ukraine. In July, Italy will host the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will be a further opportunity to support and strengthen the country, also in its process of modernization and reform within the framework of the European integration process.
On the sidelines of theevent, Minister Tajani will hold some bilateral meetings to discuss the main current international issues with partners.
